How I Review BBQ Gear
Every gear recommendation on CharredPicks follows the same process. No shortcuts, no paid placements, no manufacturer influence.
1. Research real demand
I start by finding what people actually search for — real questions from real backyard cooks. If nobody's searching for it, I'm not writing about it.
2. Find the contenders
I scan Amazon's catalog for products in the $30–$500 range with solid ratings (4.0+ stars) and meaningful review counts. I skip anything with suspiciously few reviews or obvious rating manipulation.
3. Analyze real buyer feedback
For each product, I dig into hundreds of verified buyer reviews looking for patterns — what people consistently love, what breaks after three months, what the manufacturer claims vs. what buyers actually experience.
4. Compare specs that matter
Cooking area, temperature range, build materials, warranty — the specs that actually affect your cooking experience. I ignore marketing fluff and focus on what determines whether you'll still be happy with this thing a year from now.
5. Give my honest verdict
Every roundup names a clear winner, a runner-up, and a budget pick — with specific reasoning for each. I explain who each product is for and who should skip it.
How recipes are developed
Every recipe on this site includes exact times, temperatures, and step-by-step instructions. I focus on techniques that work for beginners without dumbing down the results. If a recipe requires special equipment, I link to my honest review of it.
What I don't do
- Accept free products from manufacturers
- Write sponsored or paid reviews
- Recommend products I wouldn't use myself
- Pad reviews with filler to hit a word count
